Network marketers are looking for answers to why they are not having the success they expected with their MLM at home business opportunity.
Who will they look to for answers? They could choose free mentoring, coaching and training from professional industry leaders. Or they could choose to pay “handsomely” for mentoring, coaching and training. (One gentleman that we mentored was paying a coach $1500.00 for an half hour of his “professionals” time. He also went on to tell us that the “professional” at times did not show up for appointments and still billed his credit card. Some coaches are reported to be charging up to $20,000.00 for their services.)
The purpose of this article is NOT to bash those who are charging for their services. My purpose is to explore why those seeking help WILL DO whatever is required if they pay someone for the advice, but can think of every excuse not to follow through on instructions or keep appointments when help is provided free of charge.
It seems that if someone is paying for a service that there is more value placed on what is being paid for than that which is free. What a false misconception in my opinion. There is some mental conclusion drawn that something which is bought is better than something for free. A huge lack of respect.
Plain and simple…there are so many who are desperately searching for answers and looking for someone to help them figure out why they struggle and fail. As professional marketers we are simply sick and tired of frustrated network marketers NOT getting quality help they seek and so desperately need to have success. Furthermore we don’t believe that anyone should have to pay for this training. There are those who are successful in this industry who will provide help, mentoring and training…by the most successful leaders ever under one umbrella. We understand just exactly why there is failure and frustration.
If someone is paying for mentoring/coaching and were asked to read their Policies and Procedures they WOULD do it.
If someone is paying for mentoring/coaching and were asked to take an in depth look at their compensation plan to analyze how it really pays them…they WOULD do it.
A frustrated network marketer would NOT bat an eyeball at the above requests if they are paying someone to help them.
Oddly enough if you were paying a professional coach they would most likely never ask you to look at these documents. Your policies and procedures is your legally binding contract. Your compensation plan is a more focused written look at the company presentation video. You know the video you watched with all the hype.
So many can not grasp why we put so much emphasis on these two documents. They explain why you are not receiving a commission check even though you have brought personal volume/sales to the company. If you are a person who is good at retailing your product and getting customer sales but are unable to meet your recruiting qualifications…you will not get paid. You could be the best recruiter but can not bring 1000 bp or group points in sales…you didn’t meet the sales volume qualification…you don’t get a check. My friend it is about meeting ALL the qualifications…it is about jumping through all the hoops.
In the past week when speaking with people who asked for our assistance they wanted to dismiss our request to read articles that have been written by two of the top mentors and industry leaders. Bob and Anna Bassett who are on the top 100 list of MLM mentors for 2010, compiled “gotcha” clauses in articles that should be HUGE RED FLAGS of warning if found in your Policies and Procedures. These “gotcha” clauses spell disaster. If they are in your Policies and Procedures, coupled with a poor compensation plan that is paying a measly 0.05% to perhaps 12% on Personal Volume ARE reasons for much of the failure experienced by marketers.
The cards are stacked against you with clauses that give the companies the legal right to strip away distributors basic human rights. (see clause below….. in which YOU GIVE UP YOUR RIGHTS, that even your government can not take away from you, but your network marketing company can and will…and do so legally because you agreed to each and every clause when you signed up to become a distributor. But also note that the COMPANY is NOT WILLING to give up any of their rights.)
8.4 – Arbitration
If mediation is unsuccessful, any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the Agreement, or the breach thereof, shall be settled by arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Commercial Arbitration Rules, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof. Associates waive all rights to trial by jury or to any court. All arbitration proceedings shall be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. The decision of the arbitrator shall be final and binding on the parties and may, if necessary, be reduced to a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction. This agreement to arbitration shall survive any termination or expiration of the Agreement. Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in these Policies and Procedures shall prevent [Company] from applying to and obtaining from any court having jurisdiction a writ of attachment, a temporary injunction, preliminary injunction, permanent injunction or other relief available to safeguard and protect [Company’s] interest prior to, during or following the filing of any arbitration or other proceeding or pending the rendition of a decision or award in connection with any arbitration or other proceeding.
Those who are struggling ask us why…and when we point out to them where they can find the answers to that question we are considered idiots of the industry. Why? Is it because we do not charge? Perhaps. Is that fair? Not really.
