Throughout the year many different celebrations and cultural festivities are observed. National holidays, various other holidays and religious observances. These are the times for family and friends to enjoy each other and to refresh ourselves for the time between holidays. There are many who just let these great days pass and just spend every waking moment on their business and wonder why their life is not going as planned. As I go into this Christmas season I am reminded of a story told to me by the owner, at that time, of his grandfather. You see this grandfather had spent every waking moment on his business to the point of forsaking the friendship of many. His only remaining friend was his spouse and upon her passing he was left with no one. Yes he was successful but now he had no one to share in the success or even the friends to spend his retirement years enjoying life. He had grown bitter towards some of the family choosing favourites which leaves me to wonder if he had forgotten what family is. Was it worth it to trade family and friends for a successful business? That is a question only you can answer.
A second story that was told to me by a friend gives me all the answers I need to know regarding the cost business can have if I allow it to happen. My friend had been invited to a meeting regarding employment companies who supply workers when requested. After the meeting she had the opportunity to speak to a billionaire who held the meeting. In the conversation this very rich man made the comment “that life not always plays out as we think it should. Yes he had friends but many were only there to see what they could get. In the end he stated that he had spent so much time building his multi billion dollar business but never enjoyed life because of the responsibilities and worries associated with a business empire. It was not worth the cost.”
Regardless of the size of your business you will need to decide the cost and whether it will be worth it. You will need to decide if your family and friends will be included in your success or left behind and forgotten.
True success is not measured in dollars and cents but in the quality of your relationship with your family and friends. It matters not how successful you are if you have no one to share it with. Human beings are social beings who become bitter and withdrawn when left alone to life their life. Retirement is best shared with family and friends with the desire to enjoy life.
This Christmas or any other holiday take the time away from your business and spend that quality time with friends and family. You will be glad that you did because life is best shared with family and friends who share in each others successes and joys. In the end we leave behind a legacy. If we leave behind a legacy of money we are soon forgotten when it is all spent. If we leave behind the legacy of family and friendship we will be remembered through the stories passed down and if the stories are good there may be others who will follow in our footsteps. Leaving footsteps that others follow is the true legacy, knowing you had left an impression on others of a great life lived. Frustrated Network Marketer–Tis The Season, Family Comes First.
